Die Universitätsstadt Paderborn, seit 1930 Sitz des Erzbistums Paderborn, liegt im Osten von Nordrhein-Westfalen, zählt etwa 148000 Einwohner und zeichnet sich durch ein vielfältiges kulturelles Angebot aus. Im 8. und 9. Jahrhundert übernahm die Stadt unter Karl dem Großen der hier eine Pfalz errichten ließ und mit der Gründung des Bistums Paderborn eine wichtige Funktion für die Christianisierung des Sachsengebiets. Durch die Errichtung von Dom und Bartholomäuskirche, den Neubau der Pfalz sowie die Gründung von Kloster Abdinghof und des Kanonikerstiftes Busdorf durch Bischof Meinwerk entwickelte sich Paderborn im 11. Jahrhundert städtebaulich zu einer der führenden Städte im Reich, in der regelmäßig die Könige Hof hielten. Vorliegender handlicher Stadtführer stellt die Sehenswürdigkeiten und Museen der Stadt anhand informativer Texte und zahlreicher Farbabbildungen detailliert vor.
